FairPrice

1. Who We Are

FairPrice ("we", "our", or "us") is a mobile application that lets community members report prices, vote on fairness, and join boycotts of overpriced products. All reports are community opinion and are not verified facts.

2. Information We Collect

FairPrice is designed to work without creating an account. We collect only what is needed for the app to function:

Information stored on your device only:

• Price reports you submit (product name, price, store, city, and optional photo)
• Your votes, boycott memberships, and activity history
• Your in-app profile (display name, streak, stats)
• Notification preferences

This information is saved in your phone's local storage (AsyncStorage) and is never transmitted to our servers.

Device permissions we request:

• Camera — to scan product barcodes and attach receipt photos. Photos you choose to attach are stored locally on your device only.
• Location — to auto-fill your city when submitting a price report. We use approximate location only; we do not track or log your precise location.
• Notifications — to send you optional local reminders (e.g. daily streak reminder at 8 PM) and boycott success alerts. These are local notifications generated on your device — we do not send push notifications from a server.

3. Third-Party Services

When you scan a barcode, FairPrice makes a request to the Open Food Facts API (openfoodfacts.org) to look up the product name. This request includes the barcode number. Open Food Facts is an open-source, non-profit food database. Their privacy policy is available at openfoodfacts.org/privacy.

We do not use any advertising networks, analytics platforms, or tracking SDKs.

4. How We Use Information

• To display price reports, category trends, and boycott progress within the app
• To calculate your streak, stats, and badges
• To send local notifications you have opted into

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond making the app work.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third party, except as described in Section 3 (Open Food Facts barcode lookups).

6. Children's Privacy

FairPrice is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, please contact us so we can address it.

7. Data Retention & Deletion

Because all data is stored locally on your device, you can delete it at any time by uninstalling the app. Uninstalling FairPrice removes all locally stored data completely.

8. Your Rights

Since we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, there is no account to delete and no data for us to provide or erase on request. If you have questions, please contact us at the email below.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date below and, if changes are significant, notify you within the app. Continued use of FairPrice after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
